We begin with a visit to the Red Springs, located in Karahayit, a village close to Pamukkale. Marvel at the water, which is coloured red due to its high iron content.
Next, we visit the ruins of the ancient Roman spa town of Hierapolis, used as a spa since the 2nd century, with people travelling from all over in the hope that the thermal water would cure their ailments. The town was a very wealthy one, and rebuilding following an earthquake saw Hierapolis expand to include two Roman baths, a gymnasium, temples, and a colonnaded main street. Over time, Hierapolis became one of the most influential Roman cities in the areas of arts, philosophy, and trade. Today, the World Heritage-listed site is under restoration, and the theater and the necropolis alone make the site well worth a visit. Our tour includes a visit to the museum, although please note that it is closed on Mondays.
After taking you through Hierapolis, your guide will give you some information about the famous white travertines (calcium pools) that are part of the Hierapolis site and give you free time to explore or swim in the Cleopatra Antique Pool.
The tour concludes with a late-buffet lunch. You will be dropped off at your hotel.
